Soft and Hard Caps

06/01/2023

Is this a soft cap or a hard cap?

You probably guessed soft cap because of the brushed velour brim. However, this old school dad cap, available on eBay, has nothing to do with soft or hard caps in the world of handicapping. So, what really is a soft cap and hard cap? The following video can explain.

So now, you are an expert on soft caps and hard caps. But how do you know if you are playing with a soft cap, hard cap or neither? Just open your GHIN app and look for the icon next to your handicap index. The icon is an exclamation point within a circle.

You aren't seeing one? That's a good thing. You're probably enjoying your rounds of golf. Oh, oh, you see the icon! Why? According to the video, You're having "a series of bad scores". You're in a slump is another way of saying it. It happens. However, you are not the only SGL member struggling with the game. Looking at the report below, there's even a hard cap in the membership. If you look at the Low HI (Handicap Index) column in the report below, you'll see it's not only the middle and high handicappers that get capped, there are low handicappers getting capped as well. Golf is hard.

What should you do if you have a cap on your index? It's a great excuse to buy a new set of clubs in the SGL Pro Shop - maybe the ones that Scottie Scheffler or Lydia Ko have in their bag - because you're thinking it's gotta be the clubs, not you. But a more sensible approach would be to consider golf lessons, club fitting, or both. Consult either of the two Andrews in the pro shop.

You will find three reports below - Number of Rounds (Monthly) Posted, 2023 Timely Posts and a 2023 Trimonthly Posting report. The Most Improved report link is located elsewhere on this website.

This month's winner of a sleeve of TaylorMade golf balls is Chris Gosswiller. (Please track down golf pro Andrew Grove.)
