No. 2 and No. 10

"Please take out your No. 2 pencil."
When my grade school teacher spoke those words, I knew I was about to take a test. I say those same words now only because it's time to post your scores into GHIN. March is the start of Oregon's golfing season, and it extends through November.
Please have your pencil sharpened. It's easier to read the number of strokes for each hole when you post your score. Say what? Yes, the USGA is asking the handicap committee to "strongly" encourage members to only use hole-by-hole posting and never Total Score. Hole-by-Hole posting results in accurate adjusted gross scores, which leads to accurate Handicap Indexes. This contributes to useful data that can be used for research by the USGA, which refines and improves the World Handicap System. You all have been strongly encouraged.
Here are some golf nerd statistics from the USGA:
- 82M+ rounds posted in 2024
- 88% via the GHIN mobile app
- 66% scores posted by Total Score
- ONLY 27% posted Hole-by-Hole!
- 7% were Hole-by-Hole with Stats
To new Salishan Golf Links members, the handicap committee enthusiastically encourages you to review our handicap policy, found here.
